ACADEMIC AND PROJECT WORK
(a) The Master’s Degree Project work titled “Investigation of wheat varieties of different ecological origin for use in breeding allocytoplasmic hybrids”, was carried out as a full time student of the Department of Genetics and Plant Breeding of the faculty of Agriculture, Patrice Lumumba’s Peoples’ Friendship University, Moscow. The project was successfully completed and defended with excellent grade. The University’s combined programme for the award of Master of Science degree was completed with distinction having given all examinations as follows:

(b) The Ph.D Degree project work, titled “Commercial and Biological Characters of Allocytoplasmic forms, hybrids and varieties of common wheat of different ecological and geographic origin” was basically a continuation of the master’s degree project workbut with deeper and muchwiderprogramme. It was carried out as a full time postgraduate research work in the same University. The experimental part of the research was carried out at the “All Union Institute of Genetics and Plant Breeding” Odessa, Ukraine and was part of the former Soviet Union Government’s registered research projects.

i. Production of reciprocal hybrids with the same nucleus but different cytoplasms
ii. Determination of the influence of different types of cytoplasm on plants’ ontogenesis.
iii. The study of the effects of vernalization and photoperiodism on plant’s growth and development.
iv. Peculiarities of leaf surface area formation and its relationship with the level of plant’s productivity.
v. Determination of the degree and character of the influence of cytoplasmic hereditary factors on the formation of quantitative characters.
vi. The study of the influence of plasmogenes on the immunity of plants to diseases and pests damages.
vii. Protein contents, starch and sugar contents, dynamics of filling and accumulation of green forage, bread quality.
viii. Statistical analysis of massive experimental data (20,000 plants with evaluation of 19 characters from each plant), variability of quantitative characters and correlation among characters with the aid of computer.
ix. Identification of hybrids and evaluation of wheat varieties through the method of electrophoresis.
(c) Ph.D candidacy (minimum) examinations in plant breeding and seed production, philosophy and Russian Language were given with excellent (A) grades.
(d) Lecture tutorials and laboratory classes for students were carried out in line with the University’s Programme.
