Admission Requirement

Basic Admission Requirements.

There are three forms of entry requirements:

Undergraduate Programme:

The minimum age for admission is 16 years.

  1. Pre-degree Programme

Candidates applying for the pre-degree programmes should posses at least five O’Level credits, two of which must be in the Sciences and a pass in English Language. In addition, the candidate must have attempted the following science subjects at the Senior Secondary Examination or equivalent: Physics, Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics.

2. UME

Students are admitted into the University degree programmes through a competitive entrance examination (University Matriculation Examination –UME) organized by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) provided that they possess a minimum

of 5 credit passes at the SSCE or equivalent obtained at not more than 2 sittings in relevant subjects and which will include:

Mathematics or Physics

Biology or Agricultural Science

3.      Direct Entry

Admission is based on combination of ‘O’ Level results with the following qualifications:

  1. OND/ND (Distinction)
  2. HND (Credit)
  3. NCE (Double Major) at Credit Level
  4. OND/ND (Credit)
  5. NCE (Double Major/Merit Level)

Candidates with qualifications as in (i) , (ii) and (iii) may be admitted into the 200 level while those as in (iv) or (v) may be admitted into the 100 level. Diploma, HND(Higher National Diploma) and equivalents in addition to O Level passes. Holders of the ND with a minimum of upper credit passes in addition to O level are normally admitted into the 200 level of the programme while holders of HND certificates may be admitted into the 300 level except for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine programme.

For UME admissions, the B. Agriculture programme, for example, requires five credit passes in SSCE/WASC/GCE ‘O’ Level which must include Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science, Mathematics/Physics and English Language. The exact requirements of different programmes, which may be modified from time to time by the University Senate could be obtained from the University Registry as well as JAMB’s information publications for potential students.

ii)         Direct Entry Candidates: The degree duration shown for most programmes are for UME candidates. Candidates with ND and HND or their equivalent spend fewer years in their programmes (as stated above), e.g four or three years , respectively, in the B. Agric. Compared to five years for UME candidates.

iii)        Postgraduate Programmes: 

Candidates should posses the requisite qualification for their intended course of study at the time of submitting their completed application forms.

  1. Postgraduate Diploma Programme

Applicants shall be holder of pass or third class Honours Bachelor’s  degree of MOUAU or other institutions recognized by Senate: or holders of the Higher National Diploma (HND) at the Distinction or Upper Credit level in Agriculture, Food Science and Technology or equivalent certificate of other institutions recognized by Senate.

2. Master Degree

Applicants must be graduates of MOUAU or other recognized Universities who have obtained the approved Bachelor degree with at least second class Honours or its equivalent , or candidates who possesses Pass or Third Class Honours degree of recognized universities and at least an Upper Credit in Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant field, or candidates who posses the Higher National Diploma (HND) with a least a credit fromrecognized institutions, plus credit at the Postgraduate Diploma in a relevant field from a recognized institution or any other certificate or qualification that may be acceptable to Senate.

3. Doctor of Philosophy Degree

Candidates must be graduates ofMOUAUor other recognized Universities who have obtained a first class at the Bachelor’s degree, or a Master degree in relevant disciplines with a Cumulative Grade Point (CGPA) of at least 4.0 on a 5 point scale, or at least 3.0 on a 4 point scale.

4. Application for Admission for Postgraduate Studies

An applicant for admission for a course leading to a Postgraduate Diploma certificate of MOUAUor any other institution recognized by the Senate of MOUAU . Application shall be made on a prescribed form, to the Dean, Postgraduate School of MOUAU. The form is available from the Secretary of Postgraduate School on request and on presentation of MOUAUreceipt for payment of non-refundable application fee. Application forms may be requested by mail but shall be processed when they are returned with a cashier’s cheque for the stated non-refundable application fee.Foreign students shall pay in an acceptable currency, a fee approved by the Board of PG School.A complete set of applications received in the PG School will first be sent to the relevant departments for screening and compliance with departmental requirements and recommendation for admission. Only applications recommended by department shall be sent to the Dean of College for the College PG Committee endorsement and transmission to the Dean of the PG School for the consideration of the board and completion of the admission process/

All processed allocations are subject to approval by Senate on the recommendation of the Board of the PG School. No person shall normally be admitted to a postgraduate programme at MOUAUunless the application has gone through the admission process described above.

Admission for Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s and Doctoral Degree programmes shall be once a year , that is at the beginning of the first semester of an academic year. Advertisement for admissions is usually made in the mass media in January of each calendar year. The closing date for receipt of applications for admission in any first semester is June 30.Applications received after this date is held over for processing in a subsequent admission period. Successfulcandidates shall normally be notified not later than the month of August…

Application for admission into a course of study leading to Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s Degree, or Doctor or Philosophy degree at MOUAU shall be made on a prescribed form to the Dean, Postgraduate School. The envelope should be marked “PG Admission.

MINIMUM GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

To qualify for the award of the degree of Bachelor of  Agriculture,  in  Soil Science.

  • Must have spent a minimum of 4 to 5 years on the programme depending  on the year  of entry – 4 years for Direct Entry and 5 years for UTME.
  • Must have passed all examinations  in Departmental  and College  core courses and required electives
  • Should not have spent more three years in excess of the prescribed minimum period for the award of the degree.
  • Should not have less than CGPA of 1.5 at the end of the programme.
  • Must have successfully completed one semester  of industrial work experience (SIWES) part of which must be in a recognized and approved organization. 
  • Must have passed  Universal Mandatory Information Telecommunication Technology (UMITT) examination.
